Human chain demanding exemplary punishment to killer Reshma Nahar Ratna and separate lane for bicycles

Reshma Nahar Ratna (33) lost her life in a road accident while cycling on Lake Road near Chandrima Udyan in the National Parliament House area of the capital at around 9 am on Friday, 8 August 2020. Her death once again raised the question of road safety. Ratna was a mountaineer, runner and cyclist. She was also a teacher in a government primary school in Dhaka.

The Barisal Marathon formed a human chain in front of the Ashwini Kumar Hall in the city on Friday, August 28 at 11 am, demanding  exemplary punishment to killer Reshma Nahar Ratna and a separate lane for bicycles. People of different professions including runners, cyclists, cultural activists participate in this human chain. Joel Karmakar, Sandeep Saha and Ataur Rahaman, organizers of Barisal Marathon, gave short speeches and Biplob Das, Lecturer, Babuganj Degree College and Ashrafur Rahman Sagar, Assistant General Secretary, Barisal Udichi spoke as guests.
We believe that ensuring the necessary infrastructure and proper management with separate lane for bicycles will facilitate safe travel of people as well as reduce accidents and traffic congestion. It will play an important role in reducing air pollution, protecting public health and building an environmentally friendly city.
